Yekaterinburg-2025: new transport for the capital of the Urals

Yekaterinburg-2025: new transport for the capital of the Urals

Yekaterinburg has already planned major changes in the transport sector. The Head of the City Administration Alexander Yacob said that in case of the city's victory in the competition for the right to host Expo-2025, the city infrastructure could change significantly: "It is impossible to exclude metro, but we must understand that this decision is quite expensive. If there are other effective solutions, they can compete with metro. Although metro is customary for us, and I want it to remain for the long haul, permanently and forever."

Regional representatives of SkyWay in the Urals have already demonstrated the project of routes for Yekaterinburg with the estimated cost of 60 billion rubles. The presented urban transport scheme includes the directions from the Academic station to the Center, from VIZ factory to ZhBK plant and Uralmash Co., from Botanica to Academic station and from "Tagansky Ryad" to the Eastern area. The fare above the ground is about 28 roubles at the traffic speed of up to 150 kilometers per hour.

Let's remind that Yekaterinburg has already competed for the right to host the World Expo 2020, but succumbed to Dubai in the last round surpassing Turkish Izmir and Brazilian Sao Paulo. In addition to Yekaterinburg, Baku and Osaka have now submitted their applications to host Expo-2025. Large construction projects associated with the exhibition are usual for cities hosting Expo. Thus, in the UAE, its opening will be timed to coincide with the opening of the new tallest building in the world - the tower at Dubai Creek Harbor designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

The decision on the venue of Expo-2025 will be taken in November 2018 at the General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau.
