The process of assembling a unibike and a unibus

At the moment the main attention of SkyWay employees is focused on manufacturing commercial samples of rolling stock at the experimental production facility "Unibus". Testing of models has passed. The rolling stock samples that you will see in this report, will be exhibited in Berlin. After the trade fair InnoTrans 2016 they will be delivered for tests in SkyWay EcoTechnoPark.

Starting from the workshop, which produces components, Anatoly Yunitskiy continued the tour of production areas, where he demonstrated and commented to our filming crew on the process of assembling a unibike and a unibus.

Translation of the video:

Mikhail Kirichenko: Good day! Here is Mikhail Kirichenko. You are watching SkyWay news, where we tell you about the developments and implementation of breakthrough transport technologies. Today we have a sensational report on the most secret designing of the rolling stock and our guide today is Anatoly Yunitskiy himself. Good afternoon, Anatoly!

Anatoly Yunitskiy: It is secret, but we shall not disclose secrets. We will show the things that can be shown. Let's go into the workshop. Now you see, even here in the corridor there are some elements. This is the side part of the unibus body frame. It will cover the chassis. Here you can see a part of the mould to produce the left windscreen for a unibus. To ensure a perfect shape with accuracy up to 0.1 mm, this mould will be filled with a special mixture similar to concrete that will add rigidity to the structure. Later it will be turned over and the windshield will be manufactured on that surface outside polished for high quality. Here we produce elements of glass plastic for the rolling stock. Here is a chair standing. We have our own unique chair. There are no such chairs on sale. They are used nowhere else. A passenger can ride and spin pedals.

M.K.: And the design looks unique.

A.Y.: Yes. In particular, the seat and the back rest are different. We have specially designed the ergonomics for a passenger willing to do sports or fitness to feel conveniently and comfortably to move. We produce even such things ourselves. These are elements of a fairing. This is a roof air fairing for a unibike. Here we have a tail-cone for the top part in a unibike with power units. It is a suspended vehicle. Here the other half of the windscreen will be produced by the same technology.

M.K.: It is similar to that one we have seen at the entrance.

A.Y.: We have two halves of fairing. They are mirrorlike, symmetrical. We cannot do both of them with one mould. We have to prepare two moulds for them. The working face is inside, we cannot see it. Here is the inner part that will be filled with a special mixture for rigidity.

M.K.: These are all components. Our friends would like to see how it all is assembled in a module. - Let's go and see.

A.Y.: You see, they are grinding and polishing. There's a lot of finishing manual work here. By the way, automobile designing is a complicated thing. I know that Italian designers get about 60 million euro for designing a new car. For its development and manufacture. Just what we are doing now. They also do it manually. They are even proud that they feel the shape with their hands and finish the work manually with some stuff similar to modelling clay. They remove unwanted matter like from a sculpture manually.

M.K.: How much do our designers get for it?

A.Y.: It turned out several hundred times less costly. And our design is not worse. It is better from the point of view of aerodynamics, because there are no such aerodynamic shapes like ours anywhere else.

M.K.: Let us demonstrate. Seeing once is better than hearing twice.

A.Y.: It is obvious that a unibike is assembled here. It is not completed yet, therefore we can show this part with the interior. Cables, electric components are assembled. Power units will be arranged in the back. A steel frame, suspension elements. The fairings we saw will be here. And a windscreen. There will be four large doors in it. It will be convenient to board it and to get out. We do it in such designs that we would be able to supply them to countries with left-hand and right-hand traffic. Naturally, they will have doors from one side. This part is already painted. It is a working surface.

M.K.: Is it a full-scale model or a functioning commercial sample?

A.Y.: It is a commercial sample, which will be fully functioning. After the trade fair and some final adjustment, it will be taken to EcoTechnoPark to run on the test tracks that we are building now.

M.K.: So, do we see now the unibike sample that will be exposed to the whole world at the trade fair InnoTrans 2016 in Berlin?

A.Y.: Yes. And sometimes people ask us why it takes so much time. In fact, we started to manufacture the unibike and the unibus over there about 3 months ago. Nobody has ever produced a new vehicle within such a period. Even in Japan. The same refers to a new airplane or a helicopter. Therefore, when they ask why it goes so slowly, it makes me surprise and even become indignant. How can they say so? Therefore, I want to show that we do not just speak nice words about production. We are really producing it.

M.K.: Not all of our investors are experts in the transport industry.

A.Y.: The thing is that you do not have to be an expert. You should be more tolerant and patient. Without expressing your indignation on any reason. It is unacceptable for a normal work.

M.K.: I think, when they see the progress in creating the rolling stock, they will get more patience.

A.Y.: At least the majority will get it. Most of our investors are normal and responsible people. We are producing a unibus over there.

M.K.: Very interesting. Is it its drawing?

A.Y.: Yes. These are its parts. Not the whole unibus. The innovative floor is covered. I can say one thing - it is not made of glass. A glass floor should not be made in a vehicle for safety purposes.

M.K.: And it is not pleasant when somebody looks up from the bottom.

A.Y.: We can make it a mirror. It would not be pleasant especially for girls. Now we see that the body frame is completely finished. The upper part is finished, too. We are preparing glasses now. Straight glasses and doors will be here. The automotive part is also being prepared now, therefore we shall do it in time. Though the production period is so tense that, I repeat, nobody in the world makes such complex vehicles from scratch within such time period. Moreover, we did not have our production facility. We rent this facility. We even did not have our own equipment. And we do not have it in full volume now, therefore we have engaged many contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, which produce components for us.

M.K.: And our employees work overtime and in week-ends.

A.Y.: Yes, they work at nights, in week-ends and without holidays. They are completely loaded with work.

M.K.: What kind of structure is it?

A.Y.: This is for transporting a unibike, which has no wheels, it is suspended. To transport it safely, we had to design this framework. It will be loaded with a unibike into a truck and go to the trade fair. A unibike is a costly and complex product. We shall insure it for euro 500,000.

M.K.: What is so mysteriously draped here?

A.Y.: I wouldn't like to speak about it. We are also making a high-speed transport, too. This is somehow connected with it.

M.K.: And the rails behind it. Are they connected with the trade fair? Can we show them?

A.Y.: Yes, you can. This is an imitation of a track. We shall not have a track there. The rails are in full scale. The strings are turned upside down here. But the scale is 1 : 1, because we shall also demonstrate the example of the track for the unibus. We cannot make a real track at the trade fair.

M.K.: Most things that we see here were designed by the specialists of the SkyWay Technologies Co. What about the motorized wheels and motors?

A.Y.: Not most things, but everything was designed by us. No one else designed anything for us.

M.K.: Can you show anything?

A.Y.: Certainly, I can. Let's go over there. These are motorized wheels for a unibike. They are almost assembled. They lack brake disks and blocks. You can see the size. It is a real motorized wheel for the commercial unibike sample. Its capacity is up to 5 kW. The total capacity may be 20 kW. However, for the operation 2.5 kW is sufficient. For faster acceleration and overcoming gradients, we need extra capacity. And in reality the consumed power will be approximately 2 kW at 150 km/h speed. Imagine a vehicle carrying 3 passengers (here we have it for 2 passengers, but it may be for 3 people) at 150 km/h speed. If we recalculate electric power into fuel, its consumption at this speed will be 0.5 liter per 1 hour operation and approximately 0.35 liter per 100 km. Do you know any other vehicles with such efficiency?

M.K.: No, I don't.

A.Y.: At 150 km/h speed fuel consumption is approximately 0.35 liter per 100 km.

M.K.: Fantastic figures.

A.Y.: We make fantastic things and soon this phantasy will become a reality, because we do not only speak nice phrases and draw pictures, as some people think. We build test tracks and these vehicles will function there after the trade fair. Everybody will be assured that we speak the right things.

M.K.: Many people think so because they know the others do that.

A.Y.: We do not do that. This is the framework for fixing motorized wheels.

M.K.: Is it all prepared for installation on that sample for the trade fair InnoTrans?

A.Y.: Yes, you are right. With all the main elements we have here. And this is a motorized wheel with the device to make a rotor, which is assembled with these plates. Later we shall add magnets to it. This is the device. You see the size of the rotor. Stator will have a larger diameter. The capacity of this motor with the wheel is up to 50 kW. Though for the operation of a unibus at the rated speed about 7 kW is needed. A 14-seat unibus. The total capacity will be above 100 kW for faster acceleration, overcoming gradients and climbing an incline. Therefore, we make motors with tenfold margin of capacity.

M.K.: Nice. Thank you very much for such an interesting tour, Anatoly. I think all our viewers understood what is now the focus of attention for you and our whole Company.
