Speed of unibike

Running tests of SkyWay rolling stock began in November 2016, first at the production facility and then in EcoTechnoPark near Maryina Gorka. We studied primarily the interaction of the unibike with the track structure that was at different stages of readiness, worked out control, improved the position control system and linked all existing and developing elements of SkyWay transport/infrastructure complex in a united control system.

Mikhail Kirichenko: Hallo everybody! Here is Mikhail Kirichenko with you. You are watching SkyWay news, where we tell you about the developments and implementation of breakthrough transport technologies. Today we are in EcoTechnoPark near Maryina Gorka and Anatoly Yunitskiy, General designer of SkyWay Technology Co., author and creator of the technology is supervising tests with unibike heading a group of engineers. I hope that for the first time in the history of our project he will personally comment on what is happening here today and what parameters are tested. Hallo! Good afternoon, Anatoly!

Anatoly, today we have the first possibility to get from you a comment of the running trials with unibike. Tell us what is tested today in EcoTechnoPark, where we can watch the most beautiful and fastest urban transport in the world.

Anatoly Yunitskiy: Now we are testing unibike for speed at this short track section. It is only 500 meters long. We can obtain maximum possible speed only in the middle of it. We have already reached 85 km/h speed. However, the design speed of unibike on a lightweight route is 150 km/h. We shall get this speed in the future. No problem. Just on a longer track. The noise here is 75 decibel. We know how to reduce it to 65 db. We are moving to it gradually. For comparison, a tram has 80 db noise. Our transport is considerably less noisy.

M.K.: It means the noise unibike produces at today's speed is approximately equal to that from our conversation.

A.Y.: Yes. The noise from our conversation is even more.

M.K.: At least an electric generator was working here and it produced more noise.

A.Y.: Right. The thing is that we don't have our special rail yet. This is a usual tube. Rolled steel product. It is uneven. It has lengthwise and transverse unevennes with irregularities and dimples. Therefore, when the wheel is rolling, it shifts from one side to another producing bounces. It is impossible to remove this unevenness, but we grind them and check the impact of unevenness on noise. It is the most important thing. We know how to remove the noise. We shall not have it. But we have to understand clearly the dependence of unevenness and noise on various speeds of motion. We also have to understand the dependence of running smoothness (the basic feature for transport) on flexibility or rigidity of the span structure. Here, on this track at the speed of 90-100 km/h we have the running smoothness of 2-2.5 Hz. It is better than on a railway and better than in aviation. Therefore, we have the best parameters among the existing modes of transport. And we know how to improve them. We are doing it gradually.
