Interview with Sergey Artyushevsky, Chief designer of SkyWay high-speed transport complex

We invite you to get acquainted with one of the key employees at SkyWay Technologies Co. Sergei Artyushevsky, Chief designer of SkyWay high-speed transport complex. He leads the most important trend in the work of SkyWay Technologies Co., and soon, in September this year, at the trade fair InnoTrans 2018 in Berlin, there will be the world premiere of a unique high-speed unibus developed by the Project Designing Bureau. It will be able to accelerate up to 500 km/h on the SkyWay overpass, therefore it is already possible to begin to highlight this major premiere.

We apologize in advance for a rather concise nature of this video, because - unfortunately - we cannot show you not only the overall appearance, but even separate elements of this unique vehicle until September. So the interview was recorded not at the production facility but at the office of the Chief designer, and we used as illustrations the images already familiar to you. It's time to admit they do not have much in common with reality.

Translation of the video:

Mikhail Kirichenko: Hallo! Here is Mikhail Kirichenko with you. You are watching SkyWay news, where we are reporting on the developments and implementation of breakthrough transport technologies. Today we are going to speak about the subject that is of utmost interest to all of you. It was actually classified until now. That's why it is the first time, when we are publicly presenting our most secret colleague and, so to say, a "spook". Hallo, Sergey! Please introduce yourself.

Sergey Artyushevsky: Hallo! I am Sergey Artyushevsky, Chief designer of the high-speed transport complex.

M.K.: It is clear that we cannot show the production process that is rapidly progressing and discuss particular design specifics. However, would you tell us briefly what are the key points of this complex and why is it needed? Maybe, it would be enough to ride at 60 km/h speed in a city or 90 km/h in the country.

S.A.: From the beginning of time people strived to pass distances as fast as possible. And here the point was not in speed, but in the time spent for some transfer. Time and resources - money in this case. We want to provide for the people not speed to get adrenalin, but to bring them closer together at long distances spending minimum time and minimum cash for it. The purpose is to find the middle, the balance between speed, spent time and cost.

M.K.: In other words, an optimal ratio of product quality and price.

S.A.: Absolutely.

M.K.: Thank you. And how will a person feel at such a great speed?

S.A.: The comfort will be magnificent. It will be like sitting on a sofa, drinking tea or coffee and watching TV. In this case the most important factor is not the speed, but the acceleration for reaching this speed and deceleration to stop. If the acceleration is abrupt pressing a person to the seat, it makes him feel uncomfortable and brings extra load to his internal organs, heart, brain, etc. If it is smooth, a person will even not notice that a vehicle started moving. Speaking about comfort, we should pay special attention to the track structure, because it is an integral factor to ensure this comfort. Let me illustrate it. While passing with a wheel on a road, any vehicle makes a deflection. The same happens at our truss track structure. However, if the deflection is vertical, the vehicle makes it even by pressing on it. And we are actually riding along an absolutely even rail all the time. If we show it in general, everyone will think that the track looks like this. However, in our case the supports are located not in these places, but in these ones. At the lowest points. In fact, the vehicle rides with a wheel and makes our track structure even. As a result, we are passing along an absolutely straight rail at any moment of time.

M.K.: I'd like you to explain how we look compared to our competitors, because obviously we are not the only Company engaged with promising technologies.

S.A.: Well, our project is in a marked contrast to the competitors with its engineering development, marketability, eco-friendliness and safety. Safety is the key point, on which we are primarily concentrated, because it is even more important than comfort and speed in this particular model. I should also point out that our competitors are at the stage of project designing, while we have already operating projects at EcoTechnoPark.

M.K.: It is interesting to find out about the purpose to use this transport.

S.A.: This mode of transport is designed to service an average family of 6 people with their luggage. It is not designed to ride more than 2-3 hours. Passengers may coordinate between themselves on a stop at any place so as to go out, have a rest and breathe fresh air.

M.K.: It is possible to pass half of the Earth for 2-3 hours at such speed.

S.A.: Right, it is designed just for that.

M.K.: Now tell us about some operational features.

S.A.: This vehicle is designed for 500 km/h speed. It will be tested at such speed. However, we advise a lower speed for operation, taking into account acceleration, movement and deceleration. Naturally, the speed during acceleration and slow-down is less, though the potential of this vehicle is much higher.

M.K.: You have already mentioned the passenger capacity. And what about energy consumption? Any figures?

S.A.: It is approximately about 8 liters at the average speed of 450 km/h. I am not going to tell more exact information now.

M.K.: Is it 8 liters for the vehicle?

S.A.: It is 8 liters per 100 km as the consumption is calculated for automobile transport.

M.K.: It is wonderful for such speed. Really.

S.A.: As I understand, it is a record for such speed.

M.K.: What are the prospects for high-speed services and what are your short-term plans for the future?

S.A.: The short-term prospects are to demonstrate our high-speed vehicle to the world public at the trade fair InnoTrans. Speaking in more general sense, we are planning to implement our high-speed lines around the entire planet.
