Yekaterinburg: it will not be metro, it will be SkyWay

Four months are left until the zero hour - announcement of the host for the World exhibition EXPO-2025 - but Yekaterinburg administration staff is already thinking how to show the city at its best including the aspect of infrastructure projects. The authorities do not exclude construction of SkyWay transport system that will partially replace metro, which is expensive and difficult to build. It is possible that citizens would see SkyWay transport over Mayakovsky Park by 2025. Deputy Head of Yekaterinburg administration for capital construction and land use Alexey Belyshev told at the session of the International industrial exhibition Innoprom on the creation of "Smart City" for EXPO-2025, report portals Nakanune.RU and e1.ru (in Russian).

Metro means expenses on time and money. Of course, it will be here, if we speak about the final perspective. And it will be SkyWay, where appropriate

"Metro means expenses on time and money. Of course, it will be here, if we speak about the final perspective. And it will be SkyWay, where appropriate. Mayakovsky Park will be crossed by such an unusual mode of public transport. We visited Belarus, saw the prototype, samples, and we believe that in some areas - recreational and landscape zones, where streets and roads cannot be built, it is possible to travel in this way. Technologies are being improved, therefore, we should not refuse from those of them that exist today and can be implemented," said Alexey Belyshev.

In addition to SkyWay, the city is also planning to lay a light rail transport line with its terminal at Expo City. It should be noted that implementation of all infrastructure and building projects in Yekaterinburg depends at the moment largely on whether the city will receive the right to hold EXPO-2025. At present the city's competitors are Baku and Osaka; the decision on who will host the exhibition will be taken at the General Assembly of the Bureau of International Exhibitions in November 2018.

As a reminder, the delegation from Yekaterinburg visited SkyWay EcoTechnoPark in spring this year. During the business meeting, the guests made a tour of the pilot production facilities, evaluated new samples of SkyWay rolling stock and also witnessed performance trials.
