Transport to save humanity

Inventors, academicians and scientists from various countries discussed ways to solve global environmental problems that humanity is already facing today at the II International Science and Technology Conference “Non-rocket industrialization of space: problems, ideas, projects”, held on June 21 in Belarus.

One of the main subjects of the conference was the speech by Anatoly Yunitskiy, Belarusian engineer and inventor, member of the USSR cosmonautics Federation, creator of SkyWay transport technology. He offered his own version to save the Earth’s future — General Planetary Vehicle (GPV).

Thanks to the creation of GPV, the cost of delivering each ton of cargo into orbit will be reduced in comparison with the rocket by thousands of times and will be less than 1,000 USD per ton. But the main thing is that civilization will get access to almost ideal conditions for technological processes: zero gravity, vacuum, unlimited raw materials, energy and spatial resources.

The project budget is USD 2.5 trillion. That’s just three annual U.S. military budgets. The power of GPV hooking up into electrical network is 100 million kilowatts. That’s how much one heavy rocket carrier consumes. The project will require about 100 million tons of steel. For comparison, this is how much is smelted on the planet for 3 weeks. And the needed concrete is no more than that laid in the dam of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP — about 10 million cubic meters.
